November 2005 Wednesday, November 30th - 09:00 - 13:45 The trial continues with the testimony of Lt. Col. Janos Sel. He spends his examination trying to disprove indictments about various military activities in Bela Crkva, Celina, Donji Retimlje, and Dakovica. The cross-examination is mostly spend disputing the existence of a mosque that may or may not have been bombed in Celina. / transcript Tuesday, November 29th - 09:00 - 13:45 Both the prosecution and Milosevic oppose the plan by the Hague Tribunal to sever the Kosovo part of the indictment and then continue trial on indictments or Croatia, Bosnia, and Herzegovina. Milosevic reiterates his hope to postpone the trial to allow for recooperation of his health, but makes it clear that he does not want separate trials. / transcript Monday, November 21st - Today's session lasted only seven minutes. Court was adjouned for a week, pending Milosevic's examination by a court appointed cardiologist this coming Friday. / transcript Thursday November 17th - Milosevic has requested a six week "mental and physical" break in the trial for health reasons.The trial has been adjourned for the week pending a decision by the judges on this request. Wednesday, November 16th - 09:00 - 13:45 Lt. Col. Odak completes his testimony. He discusses the Hadum Mosque and old bazaar in Dakovica and claims that they were bombed by NATO. Milosevic re-examines Odak and tries to prove that Dakovica was not ethnically cleansed, but rather, the population increased with refugees fleeing KLA-controlled territories. The hearing ends immediately after Odak’s testimony when Milosevic complains that he feels ill. / transcript Tuesday, November 15th - 09:00 - 13:45 Captain Husein Sarvanovic, commander of the motorized company of the 1st Prizren Brigade of the Yugoslav Army (VJ) during the Kosovo war. is called to the stand. Sarvanovic denies that any orders or actions of his troops violated international humanitarian law and that there was not massacre at Bela Crkva. The next witness is Lt. Col. Zlatko Odak. He discusses the KLA’s tactic of attacking the army from villages. He also claims that NATO, not the army, was responsible for bombing civilians and that there was no conspiracy to ethnically cleanse Kosovo. The cross-examination begins, and will continue on the 16th. / transcript Friday, November 11th - today's trial was ajourned after five minutes due to Milosevic's illness. / transcript Thursday, November 10th - 09:00 - 13:45 General Geza Farkas completes his testimony. Most of the day is spent discussing the re-burial of bodies in Batajnica. Farkas claims that Milosevic never ordered the hiding of corpses to his knowledge. He is also questioned about racism against non-Serbs within the army, which he says was qute rare. Milosevic briefly re-examines the witness to end his testimony. / transcript Wednesday, November 9th - 09:00 - 13:45 Milosevic completes his re-examination of Col. Vukovic. Afterwards, General Geza Farkas, who was the chief of the Security Department of the Yugoslav Army during the Kosovo war, is called to the stand. Most of Farkas’ testimony deals with the structure and activites of the Yugoslav Army. He denies that the army had any conspiracy to ethnically cleanse Kosovo and blames NATO and KLA for the refugees. The cross-examination briefly begins and will continue. / transcript Wednesday, November 2nd - 09:00 - 13:45 The cross-examination of Col. Vukovic concludes. He discusses events at Velika Krusa, saying he had nothing to do with the alleged rounding up and burning of about 105 Albanian men. Milosevic begins his re-examination, most of which is spent reiterating Vukovic’s distance from events at Bela Crkva and explaining Vukovic’s use of the word “cleanse”. / transcript; Due to problems in the Hague, this recording is Audio Only. Tuesday, November 1st - 09:00 - 13:45 The cross-examination of Col. Vlatko Vukovic continues. Again, the use of the word “ciscenje”, “to cleanse”, which appears in Vukovic’s log books, is discussed in depth in regards whether it was written in reference to ethinic cleansing . The remainder of the day is spent discussing events at Bela Crkva on March 25, 1999, which Vukovic claims to have only passed through with no combat.
