December 2005 Monday, December 12th - Milosevic requests being allowed to travel to Moscow for medical treatment. His request is denied. Afterwards, Janos Sel continues his cross-examination. The prosecution had taken incriminating statements from several soldiers from Sel’s unit and asks Sel about these statements. Sel explains that three of the soldiers were in his unit for five days, and one of them was not in his unit at all. Milosevic then has a closed-session re-examination of Sel, in which he says he proves that the soldiers were lying. Sel finishes his testimony and trial is adjourned until Monday, January 23, 2006. 09:00 - 13:45 / transcript -- trial is now adjourned until January 23rd, 2006. Thursday, December 8th - The cross-examination of General Krsman Jelic concludes. Jelic spends much of the day denying accusations that his men used grenades to kill civilians in Kotlina, then threw their bodies down wells. Milosevic re-examines the witness, bringing photos of what the prosecution calls wells, which he says are KLA bunkers. After Jelic’s testimony, the court discusses whether Milosevic should be granted another 380 hours to complete his case. The last 20 minutes of the day are spent on the cross-examination of Lt. Col. Janos Sel. 09:00 - 13:45 / transcript Wednesday, December 7th - The cross-examination of Krsman Jelic begins. Nice spends the first part questioning Jelic about the compilation of war documents. The majority of the trial consists of Jelic and Nice arguing about whether or not Jelic was in Racak on January 15, 1999. He insists that bodies found in Kotlina were those of KLA terrorists, not civilians. He says the same thing of combat outside Dubrava and insists that there was no conflict whatsoever in Dubrava, nor in Slatina. He also says that his troops never entered (and therefore never looted) Stagovo. He reiterates that his orders were to adhere to humanitarian law and that soldiers were punished for committing war crimes.09:00 - 13:45 / transcript Thursday, December 1 - General Krsman Jelic, commander of the Urosevac garrison and the 243rd Armored Brigade, is called to the witness stand. He claims that his unit did not open fire on Racak on January 15, 1999, because they were one kilometer away at the time. Jelic also denies attacking Kacanik between March and May of 1999, deeming the area unnecessary to attack because it was under control.
